The production of the SUV derivative of the Fiat 500, the Fiat 500X , and the “mini” Jeep will begin in 2014 after an investment of one billion euro in the plant of Melfi, in Italy, in order to adapt to new requirements for manufacturing of these two models, both developed on Small Wide platform underpinning and the Fiat 500L.

This investment, as well as necessary for the preparation of the Melfi plant for the production of these two new models, is to reaffirm the plan to give more weight to the production in Italy of Fiat Group models, remember that Maserati and Alfa Romeo production in Italy is crucial to affect the entire range.

The Jeep will be the first of the two models to arrive in early 2014, marketed in the U.S., Asia and Europe and only a mechanical AWD. The Fiat 500X, which will continue with the new product line based on the name of the Fiat 500, the Fiat 500L, the alleged Fiat 500XL with 7 seats and of course the Fiat 500c , due to replace the Fiat Sedici, will be available instead Total front-wheel drive, starting marketing in the second half of 2014 .

There is no doubt that next year we will know more details of these two new SUV, a new Jeep to give the range of the U.S. firm a new level of access, probably with a more offroad and greater presence of detail luxury and Fiat 500X to face in the segment with the wide range of models SUV compact that await us in the coming years.
